Meet Stevie

UPDATE:

Stevie has a Patella Luxation on her right hind leg and will require corrective surgery when she is about 10 months old, after she has grown a bit. Stevie will remain in DCH foster care until after her surgery.

Any donation towards the cost of this surgery, which will be approximately $1,000, would be very much appreciated.
______________________________

Stevie was surrendered to Hawkesbury Companion Animal Shelter, and although her history is unknown, she was initially too scared to be handled or touched and cowered in fear from people.

However, after only a few days in foster care, this lovely girl is just a happy, playful puppy who needs some love, patience and training!

Stevie is being crate trained and is doing really well! The crate is used for car travel but more importantly, it gives her a safe place to go when she is unsure or needs some security, and it is also where she sleeps at night. Stevie will go into her crate at bedtime and sleep by herself on her nice soft bed, without barking or complaining.

Stevie will be a medium sized dog and will suit a person/family that has prior experience with dogs and, most importantly, has the time to continue with her training and socialisation. She is a clever puppy and responds very well to positive reinforcement, and is very affectionate once she knows and trusts you. I think Stevie would excel if given proper obedience training.

Stevie would be best to go to a quieter home without children and will need a secure yard.

Stevie is a bit cheeky and food reactive with other dogs at meal time however, and eats in her crate now as she loves to sample what the resident dogs are eating rather than her own bowl.

Although Stevie has met our resident cats, she wants to play with them like dogs, and they are not impressed! It would be best if she went to a cat-free home.

As she has already had a rough start to her life, please carefully consider if you would be suitable to adopt Stevie as she now needs love, stability and a permanent Forever Home.

Remember that Stevie is still a pup who will be naughty, chew something she shouldn't or occasionally bark - how she behaves as an adult dog will depend on how she is trained now.

Stevie will remain in DCH foster care until after her corrective surgery. She will hopefully be ready for adoption around April 2021.
