Meet Shelby

Shelby is an unusual cross breed with beautiful striking eyes, one blue, one brown, which is typical of the breeds.

She is in wonderful health with a sleek physique, not an gram of fat.

Unfortunately she has not had the training her intelligent mind requires, so she needs ongoing discipline & guidance. she has been left to entertain herself in a backyard instead of being encouraged into agility or scent training. She would make an excellent companion for an active family.

Requiring at least an hours walk/exercise per day someone who enjoys cycling/athletics/sport/jogging/beach outdoor lifestyle would find her romping in heaven & loving you for it.

What is difficult for me to see is how she cowers when I show her hand signals, indicative of being smacked in the past, she has to learn that you are NOT punishing her when you ask for obedience. I use hand signals instead of words so that when I am out at the park my fosters learn to watch me & come with signal rather than me hollering across the park. To see her fall to the ground at the sight of a hand raised is hard but with time & patience she will learn to trust again.

This is not a breed for first time dog owners, she requires clear & consistent boundaries, a kind & confident leader who will ask for conformity & be rewarded with good behaviour.

With a busy mind intellectual stimulation should be encouraged. Both GSP & Catahoula dogs are bred to help hunters so by exploiting their natural instincts of finding through scent alone you are playing to their strengths & will reap the rewards of a loyal & contented dog.

She will NOT do well left alone in a yard all day while you work.

If you feel you can offer Shelby the home she so richly deserves please call to discuss.
