Di

Di

Hi Anne

Just a note to let you know that Di is doing fine. She has completed her indoor vaccinations, wormed and flea treated, and is registered to me.

I finished building my cat compound. Made from net from Nationwide Netmakers and held together with plastic coated clothesline wire that you can get from any hardware store. Looks like a big see-through tent between the house and fence. This gives them approx. 10m X 4m grass area with a tree connected to the house through cat-flap. They cannot get out and essentially they are indoor cats.

She gets on great with my other cat Toby. He finally accepted her (after he got the snip) and they have been grooming each other for more than a month. They wrestle all the time but nothing serious and she is big enough to stand her ground now. She is 100% cat, quivers all over when she spots a bird and is a great little huntress and climber. She also has the advantage of camouflage when she flattens out in the grass to ambush Toby. He is ginger/white and stands out like a sore thumb.

Di doesnt like being handled much but loves company, his and mine, and purrs like a little motorboat most of the time. She makes almost no noise at all, chirps like a little bird when she has something to say, but howls up a storm when I take her to the vet. She doesnt stop crying until I get her home then immediately starts purring again. I know she is very happy here.

No medical problems at all but she has a strange fascination with water. Plays with it whenever she sees it and was defecating in her water dish. I filled up a big ice-cream container thinking it was too deep but she even climbed inside this and squatted with water up to her shoulders! I solved this problem by putting a small glass of water in each litter tray (changing the water frequently) and keeping the water dish outside. She drinks out of the outside bowl like any other cat and doesnt harm it, uses the litter trays ok, so this worked out fine.

She is an adorable little cat and I cant imagine not having her here. She also keeps Toby sane when I am at work. Thank you for bringing us together.

Yours sincerely, Tony.

Mummy Blue

Mummy Blue

Dear Leanne, I hope that this e-mail finds you well. It has been over a year since we adopted Mummy Blue from you. While we loved the name, we ended up calling her Besty, which I think suits her quite well. I keep thinking about her little boy, I'm sure that he's grown up to be as lovely as Besty has!

My partner says that adopting Betsy was one of the best ideas that I've ever had, and I can't help but agree. She is just the most adorable little cat, full of personality, and even 'non-cat' people love her! While we were a little cautious over her description as taking a while to warm to people, it really wasn't an issue at all. She spent the first few days understandably quiet (and sometimes under the bed) she loved coming out and being the centre of attention. Whenever she needs looking after if we're away, our family loves it, and seem so excited when she shows them extra attention. Friends have made jokes about the number of photo's i have of her... until they come around and take some for themselves!

These days she tends to find the most uncomfortable places to sit, such as lying on top of a book on our bed (especially if we're reading it), or a pair of shoes or a backpack on the floor. In the heat of summer it wasn't uncommon to find her curled up in the bathroom sink! She likes clawing boxes (but thankfully not the furniture) and has a favorite pot that she'll curl up in if the plant isn't in it.

Betsy is very patient with us, and has gradually allowed us to pick her up without grunting at us... as long as it's accompanied by lots of scratching and patting... Especially if we've just come home. In the early days she would sit next to our head purring loudly while we were (trying) to sleep, or sit on our chest with her nose practically touching ours.

If we're on the couch watching telly, she'll find whichever hand is free and generally make a nuisance of herself until we pat her with it. Otherwise she'll sit next to us and if we're lucky, sometimes falls asleep on our laps. The thing we love the most is when she's extra happy, and makes little cooing sounds as well as purring very loudly.

Betsy is very good natured, and other than making a game out of clawing our feet at bed time, is an absolute joy to look after. I think she feels that she's not our pet- we're hers!

Thank you so much for looking after her so well. We're so happy to have her in our lives.

Best regards, Marnie

Leo and Crystal

Leo and Crystal

This email is to update DCH and their foster carer Cassandra on the kittens we adopted last year. We adopted Leo and Crystal (now renamed Jeffy and Jazzy) last Oct-Nov 09 and they have grown to be a lovely but mischievous pair. They are mainly indoor but do get a bit of outdoor time during the day.

They generally think they own the house and do whatever they feel like, which is ok most of the time. They are a lovely edition to our pet family which is now two cats and three dogs. We are very happy with the pair and they have adapted well.

Gini and Roland

adopted on 12/11/09 after 7 weeks in foster care.

Tiberius

Dear Megan and Cassandra, Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to find Tibs, our new 3mth old 'son'. He is one in a million, and reminds me of the cat I grew up with. So gentle and calm and yet playful. He is a wonder in the way he interacts with the baby and pre-schooler. I am so glad that DCH carers make it possible for lovely inexplicably unwanted animals to find a home. Thank you for all the time and work that goes into caring for them and facilitating contact so that people like us have a chance to find them instead of them being taken to the pound. A special thanks to Cassandra, on behalf of Tibs, and fond regards to his former housemate and here's hoping she finds a home soon too.

Naomi.

Tiberius was adopted on 13/1/10 after 2 weeks in foster care.
